Bill Blankenship

President

Bill Blankenship, AIA is a 1973 graduate of The School of Architecture at The University of Tennessee, and is licensed in Tennessee (TN #16511) and 17 other states. He has been responsible for the design and completion of some of the most prestigious and award-winning buildings in East Tennessee and throughout the southeast.  Bill has won numerous state and regional design awards from professional organizations.  In 2005, Mr. Blankenship served as President of the American Institute of Architects, Tennessee Chapter, where he represented 1,200 architects as their chief official and spokesperson.  Bill received this esteemed position because of his thorough knowledge of all aspects of architecture and the respect received from his professional colleagues.

Bill’s fingerprints are all over UT Athletics: from Thompson-Boling Arena to Neyland Stadium; from the practice facilities to the competitive floor; from mechanics to graphics; and from the drafting table to the donor list.  TTU’S proposed Football Operations Center has strong parallels to UT’s Neyland-Thompson Sports Center.  Through every phase, every discussion, every coach – the Sports Center has been Bill’s project since the original building in 1990.  Every decade brought a change in technology.  Every coach brought a change in philosophy.  Drawing from his knowledge of this facility, and his experience with the Athletic Department, Bill provided counsel and leadership so that the complex was successfully adapted to the changing needs.

Having experience that includes many projects with special challenges, Bill isn’t easily intimidated.  He greets perplexing sites, difficult schedules, and complex programs with enthusiasm!  With his leadership, experience, and “take charge” management, confidence is inspired and success is assured.

Like no one else, he understands the history and tradition.  Like no one else, he understands the vision and aspiration.  Because of that understanding, he has contributed to the development of several signature facilities on the Knoxville campus.  No other designer can credibly match that claim.  The success of future additions and renovations and the continuity of that vision are assured in his hands.
